BRIGADIER GENERAL LAWSON S. MOSELEY

Lawson S. Moseley was born in Lyons, Ga., in 1911 and graduated from the U.S. Mi1itary Academy on June 12, 1934 where he was commissioned a second 1ieutenant in the Coast Artillery.

Completing flying school at Randolph and Kelly fields, Texas in 1940, General Moseley was then named commanding officer of the 32nd School Squadron, Air Crew Training, at Chanute Field, Ill. In March 1941 he was designated assistant to the chief of staff, headquarters Army Air Forces, Southeast Training Center at Maxwell Field, Ala.

Going to the India-Burma theater in May 1944, General Moseley returned to the United States in 1946 to attend the Command and General Staff School and to serve as assistant deputy commanding general, Plans at Wright Field, Ohio.

Becoming commanding officer at Randolph Field Sub-base in March 1947 and later deputy for Operations, Flying Division, Air Training Command, in 1949, the general was designated assistant chief of staff, Training, Squadron A, 2500th Air Force Base Unit at Randolph Field, Texas, and later deputy chief of staff, Operations, Flying Division, Air Training Command.

After attending the Air War College in 1950, Genera1 Moseley was appointed Air Force instructor, Turkish Staff Collge in Ankara, Turkey. Returning to the United States in 1952, he became commander of Detachment 2, U.S. Air Force Group, American Mission for Aid to Turkey, 1172nd USAF Foreign Mission Squadron in Washington, D.C. In July 1952, General Moseley attended the National War College and in 1953 was appointed chief, Joint Plans Branch, War Plans Division, later becoming assistant chief, War Plans Division, in the Office of the Director of Plans, Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations. On June l5, 1956 General Moseley was appointed chief of the War Plans Division, with additional duty on Feb. 19, 1957 as deputy director of plans. Relieved of duty as chief of the War Plans on May 28, 1957, he became special assistant to director of plans, deputy chief of staff, Operations.

Going overseas, on July 25, 1957, General Moseley was named assistant chief of staff, Plans for Headquarters Pacific Air Force, with station at Honolulu, Hawaii.

His decorations include the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Air Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with service star. He has also received the Special Breast Order of Yun Hni, with ribbon.

He is rated a command pilot and aircraft observer.
