MAJOR GENERAL PAUL A. HARVEY

Major General Paul A. Harvey is commander, Keesler Technical Training Center, Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. Keesler is home of the largest technical training center in the Air Force.

General Harvey was born in 1937, in Salt Lake City. He earned a bachelor of business science degree from Miami (Ohio) University in 1959 and a master of arts degree in management and supervision from Central Michigan University in 1974. The general completed Squadron Officer School in 1962, Air Command and Staff College in 1971, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1979.

He was commissioned in the Air Force through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1959 and completed primary pilot training at Maiden Air Force Base, Mo., in February 1960. He received wings upon graduation from basic pilot training at Laredo Air Force Base, Texas, in January 1961. General Harvey then was assigned to Travis Air Force Base, Calif., as a transport pilot and flew C-133s with the 84th Military Airlift Squadron, and later C-141s with the 75th Military Airlift Squadron. In 1964 he became a special missions and a scheduling and capabilities officer for the 60th Military Airlift Wing at Travis.

From June 1966 to June 1969 General Harvey was aide-de-camp for the commander in chief Alaska, Alaskan Command, Elmendorf Air Force Base. He then served a year in the Republic of Vietnam as base operations officer for the 377th Combat Support Group at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Saigon. In that capacity he flew 160 combat missions throughout the Republic of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. After attending Air Command and Staff College from August 1970 to June 1971, he was assigned to the North American Air Defense Command, Colorado Springs, Colo., as executive officer to the deputy chief of staff for intelligence.

In October 1973 he was assigned as an executive secretary to the Air Force Board Structure, Office of the Vice Chief of Staff, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. Upon graduation from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in July 1979, General Harvey was assigned to Dover Air Force Base, Del., as deputy base commander of the 436th Air Base Group. There he also served as base commander from May 1980 to August 1981, then as vice commander of the 436th Military Airlift Wing. In January 1982 he became wing commander.

From February 1983 to August 1984 he was inspector general, Military Airlift Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill. He then became commander of the 76th Airlift Division, Military Airlift Command, Andrews Air Force Base, Md. In July 1985 he was assigned as chief of staff, Military Airlift Command. In November 1986 he became commander of the 322nd Airlift Division, Military Airlift Command, and deputy chief of staff for airlift forces, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Ramstein Air Base, West Germany. He assumed his present command in June 1988.

The general is a command pilot with more than 5,000 flying hours. His military awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Honor Medal First Class.

He was promoted to major general July 1, 1987, with same date of rank.
