BRIGADIER GENERAL DANIEL B. GERAN

Brigadier General Daniel B. Geran is assistant comptroller of the Air Force for accounting and finance; commander, Air Force Accounting and Finance Center; and assistant director, Defense Security Assistance Agency for Security Assistance Accounting, Denver. He is responsible for operation of the worldwide Air Force accounting and finance network, paying all Air Force active duty, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve and retired members, and accounting for all monies appropriated to the Air Force by the U.S. Congress.

General Geran was born in 1933, in Marion, Ohio, and graduated from Harding High School in 1951. He was commissioned a second lieutenant after graduation from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., in 1955. General Geran earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago in 1963. He completed the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Fort Lesley J. McNair, Washington, D.C., in 1972.

After completing pilot training in September 1956, General Geran attended navigator training at James Connally Air Force Base, Texas, and was awarded his navigator rating. From September 1957 to August 1962, he was assigned as a B-47 pilot and then aircraft commander at Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark.

Upon completion of graduate studies at the University of Chicago, General Geran was assigned to the Space and Missile Systems Organization, Los Angeles, from September 1963 to December 1965. While there he served as a programmer with the Programs and Budget Division; acting chief, External Affairs Office; and as deputy assistant for external affairs.

In February 1966 General Geran transferred to the Republic of Vietnam and served with the 311th Air Commando Squadron flying C-123s. Upon completion of his Southeast Asia tour of duty in February 1967, he was assigned to Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., as a systems program staff officer in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Research and Development. General Geran served in various positions there until August 1971.

Following graduation from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in June 1972, he was assigned to Headquarters Aeronautical Systems Division, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, as deputy comptroller. In June 1973 General Geran was named comptroller of the Electronic Systems Division, Air Force Systems Command at L.G. Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. From June 1979 to June 1981, he was assigned as deputy chief of staff, comptroller, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. He then transferred to Washington, D.C., and served as deputy director of budget (operations), Office of the Comptroller of the Air Force, Headquarters U.S. Air Force. In June 1982 he became deputy chief of staff, comptroller, Headquarters Air Force Systems Command, Andrews Air Force Base, Md. He assumed his present duties in August 1984.

The general is a command pilot. His military decorations and awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Air Medal with 14 oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster.

He was promoted to brigadier general June 1, 1981, with same date of rank.
