MAJOR GENERAL GEORGE F. WILLIAMS

Maj. Gen. George F. Williams is the mobilization assistant to the Commander, 3rd Air Force and 17th Expeditionary Air Force, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. He serves as the principle advisor to the Commander for all reserve component matters and oversees reserve force readiness, integration, operations, and mobilization in time of crisis and war.  Third Air Force is U.S. Air Forces in Europe’s and 17th Expeditionary Air Force is Air Forces Africa’s numbered air force for U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command.  Third Air Force and 17th Expeditionary Air Force plans, deploys, sustains and redeploys Air Force forces that directly support the combatant commanders during contingency and wartime operations.

Gen. Williams was commissioned in 1981 through the Air Force ROTC program following graduation from the University of Notre Dame where he was designated a distinguished graduate and received the Notre Dame Air Force Award as the top graduate.  He earned his navigator wings in April 1982 as a distinguished graduate at Mather AFB, Calif.  The general began his flying career as an AC-130H Gunship electronic warfare officer at Hurlburt Field, Fla., serving as an aircrew instructor, flight examiner, and tactics officer.  He was released from active duty in December 1987 and transferred to the Air Force Reserve.  General Williams’ previous assignment was mobilization assistant to the Commander, Air Force Special Operations Command, Hurlburt Field, Fla.  

Gen. Williams has a wide variety of combat and contingency experiences, including deployments to Grenada, El Salvador, Panama, Iraq, Haiti, Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Qatar.  In his civilian profession, he is employed by the Air Force in the federal civil service where he serves as Chief, 96th Test Wing, Plans and Programs Office, Eglin AFB, Fla.
