Major General JEFFREY W. BURKETT

Maj. Gen. Jeffrey W. Burkett is the Deputy Director, Joint Force Development and Design Center, Joint Staff J-7. He is responsible for developing, delivering and enabling a continuum of joint doctrine and education development, individual, staff and collective joint training, and implementing the capstone concept for joint operations to enhance the operational effectiveness of the current and future joint force.

Commissioned in 1990 through the ROTC of cadets at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Maj. Gen. Burkett spent a decade flying on active duty, holding various positions at the squadron and group level to include commanding the Prime Nuclear Airlift Force. In 2000, he joined the Air National Guard and, in 2003, was selected to serve at U.S. Northern Command where he spent time in the Canada-U.S. Bi-National Planning Group developing strategic defense policy and as a National Guard advisor improving homeland defense programs and coordination. Recognized for academic excellence in three master’s degree programs, he is an accomplished commander who has led at the group, wing and deployed joint task force level and has served with distinction on multiple combat tours. Prior to his current position, Maj. Gen. Burkett was the Vice Director, Domestic Operations, National Guard Bureau, the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia.
