BRIGADIER GENERAL RICHARD A. COLEMAN Brigadier General Richard A. Coleman is the director of security forces, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., and commander of the U.S. Air Force Security Forces Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He is the focal point for force protection within the Air Force and is responsible for security planning and programming for 30,000 active-duty and Reserve component security police at locations worldwide. He provides policy and oversight for the protection of Air Force installations from terrorism, sabotage and acts of war, and ensures the training, equipage and readiness of security forces in support of contingency and exercise plans. He enlisted in the Air Force in November, 1956, and for the next 15 years performed air police and security police duties in the Philippines, Georgia, Morocco, England, Oklahoma, Texas and South Vietnam. The general was also a military training instructor and small arms instructor at Lackland Air Force Base. He was commissioned as a distinguished graduate of Officer Training School in 1972 through the Bootstrap Commissioning Program.
