MAJOR GENERAL JON R. SHASTEEN

Maj. Gen. Jon R. Shasteen is the mobilization assistant to the Commander, Headquarters Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, Va. The command organizes, trains, equips and maintains combat-ready forces for rapid deployment and employment while ensuring strategic air defense forces are ready to meet the challenges of peacetime air sovereignty and wartime defense. ACC operates more than 1,300 aircraft, 22 wings, 14 bases and more than 500 organizations operating at more than 50 locations worldwide with more with 83,838 active-duty and civilian personnel. When mobilized, the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve contribute more than 700 aircraft and 51,134 people to ACC. As the Combat Air Forces lead agent, ACC develops strategy, doctrine, concepts, tactics, and procedures for air and space power employment. The command provides conventional and information warfare forces to all unified commands to ensure air, space and information superiority for warfighters and national decision-makers. ACC can also be called upon to assist national agencies with intelligence, surveillance and crisis response capabilities.

General Shasteen is an honor graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy class of 1977. A Guggenheim Fellow, he completed a Master of Science degree in engineering mechanics at Columbia University. He has served in various operational and training assignments including duty as an F-4 and F-16 instructor pilot, F-16 weapons school instructor pilot and squadron assistant operations officer. He has commanded a fighter squadron and an air expeditionary group. A command pilot, he has more than 3,900 flying hours in the F-4D/E and F-16A/C, including 21 combat missions.
