Organizations at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., and Schriever AFB, Colo., recently earned Public Service Excellence Awards from the Public Employees Roundtable.

The 355th Aerospace Medicine Squadron’s airman’s attic at Davis-Monthan, earned the award in the community service category.

The airman’s attic was recognized for its efforts in helping junior enlisted members make ends meet by providing necessary household items free of charge. It is also a sponsor of Brewster House, a shelter for mothers and children of domestic violence, and the Air Force Junior ROTC program in Nogalez, Ariz.

Schriever’s 2nd Space Operations Squadron’s Global Positioning System operations unit earned its award in the federal category.

The 2nd SOPS was recognized for the role GPS plays in the average citizen’s day-to-day life. Although GPS was initially designed for the military, about 90 percent of its use today is by civilians.

Public Employees Roundtable, a nonprofit organization that promotes a positive public attitude toward government employees, has given the annual Public Service Excellence Awards since 1985 in recognition of programs that embody the highest standards of government.
