Ten captains have been selected to attend the 2017 Inter-American Squadron Officer School at the Inter-American Air Forces Academy here in fiscal year 2017.

Selected to attend are Capts. Ruben Adornorodriguez, Ricardo Basora-Rovira, Edward Camacho, Nathan Elowe, Patricia Encarnacion-Miranda, Ruben Gomez, Aisha Lemos, Christian Martinez, Jose Torres, and Angel Vazquez-Pagan. Twelve alternates were also selected.

“The ISOS program is designed to develop dynamic Airmen ready to lead air, space and cyberspace power in an expeditionary war-fighting environment,” said Capt. Brian Gunn, officer workforce development support chief. “Students practice leadership and managerial skills, using lessons in military ethics, Air Force core values and human rights.”

Students also develop their knowledge of the use of airpower, including basic theories of warfare and the increasing role of aerospace and information systems in the joint environment, Gunn said.

ISOS mirrors the Squadron Officer School in-residence course at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, but includes additional objectives such as developing inter-American awareness and a cadre of potential Latin American regional affairs specialists, Gunn said. Program graduates will also earn primary developmental education credit through Air University.
