AF doctor solves NASA’s poop problem

Col. Thatcher Cardon, the 47th Medical Group commander, won the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Space Poop Challenge, beating more than 5,000 entries and winning $15,000. Cardon’s invention, the “perineal access port,” allows astronauts to manage human waste in a space suit for up to six continuous days. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Benjamin N. Valmoja)
