Col. Dave Ashley’s schedule since May 2017 included climbing a mountain, completing a 40-mile trail run, competing in a multiday athletic event that included bicycling and kayaking and achieving a perfect score on his military physical fitness test, his seventh in a row. Ashley accomplished all of these feats after donating a kidney. What began as an impulse to help a desperately ill former classmate has turned into a campaign to make sure other service members know the Military Health System supports those who want to become living organ donors.

Loadmasters with the 439th Airlift Wing, load a 1982 Mack fire truck onto a C-5B Galaxy at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst New Jersey, on Aug. 12, 2016. The truck will be flown to Managua, Nicaragua. Master Sgt. Jorge A. Narvaez, a New Jersey Air National Guardsman with the 108th Security Forces Squadron, was instrumental in getting the truck donated to a group of volunteer firefighters in Managua. The 439th AW is located at Westover Air Reserve Base, Mass. Airmen load, airlift fire truck 3,700 miles to Nicaragua
A New Jersey fire truck was recently transported 3,700 miles aboard a 449th Airlift Wing C-5B Galexy as a donation to volunteer firefighters in Managua, Nicaragua.
