Brig. Gen. Brian T. Bishop is the Deputy Director for Politico-Military Affairs (Western Hemisphere), Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate, Joint Staff, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. He is responsible to the Director for Politico-Military affairs for all issues associated within Central America, South America, Mexico and Canada. Additionally, his portfolio includes issues associated with Homeland Defense and Homeland Security. In his role, he works closely with National Security Council, Department of State, Department of Defense, U.S. Southern Command and U.S. Northern Command to provide coordinated politico-military policy recommendations to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

General Bishop grew up in an Air Force family and is a 1983 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautical engineering. He has held staff assignments at Headquarters Air Combat Command, Air Staff and the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, and has served as Deputy for Operations, Air Force Division, U.S. Military Training Mission in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The general commanded the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbirds, at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.; the 34th Operations Group at the U.S. Air Force Academy; and the 8th Fighter Wing at Kunsan Air Base, South Korea. He also commanded the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing, Joint Base Balad, Iraq, where he was also the installation commander for a total base population of approximately 28,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, DOD civilians and contractors.

General Bishop is a command pilot with more than 3,900 hours and has served as an instructor pilot in the T-37B, F-16C/D, TG-4, TG-7, TG-10B/C/D and TG-14 aircraft.
