Brigadier General Thomas W. Geary serves as Deputy to the Deputy Chief of Staff, Intelligence, Headquarters International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), Kabul, Afghanistan and as Deputy Director, Intelligence, United States Forces - Afghanistan. In these capacities, General Geary leads all United States and ISAF intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations, counter-intelligence, and intelligence support requirements within the Combined Joint Operations Area - Afghanistan.

General Geary received his commission in 1988 as a distinguished graduate of the ROTC program at Norwich University in Northfield, Vt. After commissioning, he served in the Missile Operations career field as Minuteman III ICBM Combat Crew Commander and Instructor before transitioning to the intelligence career field in 1993. General Geary served as a Senior Defense Intelligence Officer; as 8th Air Force's Director for Intelligence; and as Communications Chief and senior speechwriter for the Secretary of the Air Force and Chief of Staff of the Air Force.

Throughout his career, General Geary held a variety of leadership positions in Air Combat Command, Space Command, the United States Pacific Command, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and the National Security Agency; and he has commanded at the squadron, group, wing and joint levels. Prior to General Geary's current assignment, he commanded the National Security Agency/Central Security Service Texas, San Antonio.
