Brig. Gen. James Johnson is Director for Logistics, U.S. Africa Command, Stuttgart, Germany. He is the principal Logistics adviser to the Commander, U.S. Africa Command, and is responsible for executing all DOD logistics activities in the U.S. Africa Command area of responsibility, with a particular focus on deployment, distribution, supply, medical, and engineering matters.

General Johnson entered the Air Force through the University of Puget Sound ROTC program in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science. He served in operational positions supporting U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Mobility Command and completed numerous leadership assignments at the squadron, wing, major command, Headquarters Air Force, as well as Joint Command levels at U.S. Transportation Command, Central Command and Special Operations Command.

Prior to his current position, General Johnson served as the Director for Air Force Colonel Management, Headquarters Air Force, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
