1/3/2007 - MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan (AFPN)  -- Airmen with the 35th Civil Engineer Squadron's Fire and Emergency Services Flight here are honing their skills on a new structural fire trainer.

The better training not only can translate into less injuries, but also it consolidates a variety of scenarios in one area: putting out fires, working in confined spaces and functioning in low-visibility conditions.

In addition, working with the new trainer saves the Air Force money.

"These exercises are a great help. Our main thing is with aircraft, so this is how we stay up-to-date in our training," said Airman 1st Class Zachary Auxilly.

The training facility is able to withstand temperatures up to 1,100 degrees.
