McChord, F.E. Warren Airmen named for meritorious service award

7/9/2009 - RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFNS) -- Air Force officials here July 9 selected two Airmen for the 2009 Federal Asian/Pacific American Council Military Meritorious Service Award.
The Air Force Reserve winner, Maj. Michael Bautista, is assigned to the 728th Airlift Squadron at McChord Air Force Base, Wash., and Staff Sgt. Benjamin Kolis is assigned to the 790th Missile Security Forces Squadron at F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo.
Major Bautista, who has accumulated more than 4,000 flying hours in the KC-135 Stratotanker and C-17 Globemaster III, worked to increase development programs, employment and scholarship opportunities for minorities. His service in the Air Force Reserve and community programs promoted diversity and equal opportunity activities that advocate fair treatment for women, minorities and all members of the civilian and military population.
Sergeant Kolis taught basewide Samoan culture to military servicemembers at Hickam AFB, Hawaii, as part of the Asian Pacific group. He also served as president of Asian Pacific Islander group in Camp Bucca, Iraq, and Joint Base Balad, Iraq. As a part of the Asian Pacific Islanders group at F.E. Warren AFB, Sergeant Kolise represented the Asian Pacific Islanders in the military at a University of Wyoming luau, demonstrating island culture to college students.
The Federal Asian/Pacific American Council was founded in 1985 and is a nonprofit organization representing the civilian and military Asian Pacific American employees in the federal government. According to their Web site, the council encourages the participation and advancement of Asian Pacific Americans in the government work force. |
