5/23/2011 - RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFNS) -- Webcasts designed to help civilian Airmen plan and manage their careers will be held May 26 for GS-12 and GS-13 civilians, and June 21 for GS-7 through GS-11 civilians.

Hosted by officials of the Air Force Personnel Center civilian force integration directorate, webcast topics will include how to plan for the next job, how education affects careers, and more. The webcast series, which started this month with guidance for GS-14 and GS-15 civilian Airmen, supports the Air Force commitment to developing Airmen, said Loretta Brown, leadership development program office chief.

"The Air Force deliberately develops all Airmen to ensure they are able to fully contribute to the mission and achieve their own career goals," Ms. Brown said. "These webcasts will help civilian Airmen understand their growth options and enable them to plan their careers."

Civilian institutional development programs exist at every leadership level in a "continuum of learning" created in 2009 to ensure civilians have opportunities to achieve necessary proficiency levels. In support of that continuum, the webcasts will focus specifically on what people in specific grade groups need to know.

Briefings will be broadcast at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. central daylight time each webcast day, and supervisors are encouraged to listen in so that they are able to support their employees' development plans. Subject matter experts will be online to provide real-time answers to questions during both webcasts.

To join the webcast, go to https://connect.dco.dod.mil/dpi. Those registered with Defense Connect Online will use their user names and passwords to log in, but participants can log in as guests as well. Login access will be available 60 minutes prior to each webcast, with cutoff promptly at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. respectively. Logging in during the webcast increases the possibility of the webcast falling off line, so participants are asked to log in before the webcast begins.

Those who log in as guests must provide their names and bases to be invited to the session. Slides will be available by 8 a.m. the day of the webcast at https://gum-crm.csd.disa.mil/app/answers/detail/a_id/12998/kw/DCO%20Webcast/r_id/100169. Click on the 2011 webcast/webinars tab under the civilian webcast and webinars section.

Some computers may not run the DCO program, which requires AdobeĀ® Flash Player 8. To ensure they have access, participants should test their configuration at https://connect.dco.dod.mil/common/help/en/support/meeting_test.htm.

I was not able to make it to the DCO meeting. When I tried to view the slides on gum-crm.csd.disa.mil, the site let me log in with my CAC but then forced me to create a username and password. I filled in the entire registration form, but the validation said I was missing a block. I tried it three different times throughout the day, and I was never able to get past the registration form. And there is no link to request help. I would like to view the slides from this briefing.

@Chief McFadden Ret.: Thanks for the tips. Now what are you trying to say with "Retired with Character and Honor and Never Sold Out"? Are you implying that others have no character and have sold out in some way? How about enlightening us as to what this means to you since it is such a prominent feature in your sign off.

A total waste of time and money. With the latest word being only half of job openings will be filled and the next word being a hiring freeze, what is the purpose of these?
