Basketball: Air Force women fall to BYU, 70-40
PROVO, Utah (AFNEWS) --
After scoring just 6 points in the opening half, the Air Force women's basketball team couldn't recover, falling to Brigham Young University 70-40 Feb. 8 at the Marriott Center. The Falcons drop to 4-17 overall, 0-10 in the Mountain West Conference, while the Cougars improve to 17-5 overall, 8-1 in the MWC.
BYU led by 6 points early in the game before a jumper from Air Force sophomore Kim Kreke, from Salem, Ill., brought the Falcons within four points at 10-6. However, Air Force was held scoreless for the final 15:21 of the opening half, and went into the locker room trailing 33-6.
The Cougars extended their advantage after the break, leading by as many as 42 points. Although Air Force outscored BYU 20-9 in the final 10 minutes, it was not enough to overcome its early deficit, as the Falcons fell 70-40.
Although the Falcons entered the game as the league's top offensive rebounding team, the Cougars had a huge advantage on the boards, outrebounding the Falcons 43-32, 18 of those on the offensive end.
Junior Jamie Davis from Fresno, Calif., was the lone Falcon scoring in double-figures, finishing with 10 points, while senior Andrea Taylor of Sugar Grove, Ill., added 8 points.
The Falcons are back in action 2 p.m. (CT) Feb. 10 at Texas Christian University at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
