Hockey: Academy player takes Atlantic rookie honors

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AFPN) --   A U.S. Air Force Academy freshman was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Rookie of the Week for his performance against the University of Connecticut Dec. 7 and 8.

Jeff Hajner, a right wing/center from Las Vegas, had a career best three points in the two-game series. He assisted on the game-winning goal Dec. 7 as the Falcons beat the Huskies 4-2. On Dec. 8, he had an assist on the Falcons' first goal, and he netted the final goal on a deflection in front of the net to give the Falcons a 5-2 lead in the second period.

On the season, Hajner is the Falcons' top rookie scorer with eight points on three goals and five assists in 20 games. He is tied for 10th in the conference in points by a freshman.

The Air Force, 9-8-3 overall and 6-3-3 in the AHA, next plays Mercyhurst Jan. 5-6 in Erie, Penn.
