Missouri Guard helps St. Louis area in recovery
ST. LOUIS (AFPN) --
Missouri National Guard citizen Soldiers and Airmen are being mobilized to support storm recovery efforts in the St. Louis area.
"The Missouri National Guard is proud to help the St. Louis area through this difficult time," said Maj. Gen. King Sidwell, the adjutant general for Missouri National Guard. "We are your hometown Guard and here when you need us."
The Missouri Air National Guard's 218th Engineer Installation Squadron has approximately 30 Airmen in annual training status and is already working in support of the mission.
The 1140th Engineer Battalion is made up of approximately 230 servicemembers. They began reporting to St. Louis July 25. The unit was already conducting annual training in Wappapello and Macon and will remain in federal status.
Also, the Army Guard's 70th Troop Command is mobilizing approximately 35 Soldiers.
The citizen Soldiers and Airmen have been requested by Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt to support local authorities with debris removal, damage assessments and assistance for civil authorities in identifying vulnerable citizens.
