Maj. Gen. Anne Gunter is the Mobilization Assistant to the Commander and President of Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Air University provides full spectrum education, research and outreach at every level through professional military education, professional continuing education, and academic degree granting. 

Maj. Gen. Gunter entered the Air Force in 1988 as a distinguished graduate of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps at Tulane University in New Orleans. She spent nearly five years in the regular Air Force, stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, and Keesler AFB, Mississippi, as a Public Affairs Officer. She transitioned to the Air Force Reserve in 1993 as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee and has continued to actively serve as a traditional reservist, active guard/reserve, IMA and Air Reserve Technician in a variety of positions including numbered Air Force Inspector General and command at the flight, squadron and group levels. Maj. Gen. Gunter deployed in support of operations Provide Hope and Enduring Freedom. Prior to her current position, the general was the Special Assistant to the Chief, Air Force Reserve for Space Personnel Policy and Integration at Headquarters U.S. Air Force, the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia, where she was responsible for developing and integrating Air Force Reserve personnel policies and programs within the newly formed United States Space Force and for developing policies, programs and execution guidance and direction for integration of the Reserve into the Space Force. 

In her civilian career, Maj. Gen. Gunter has served as Public Affairs Director for Headquarters Air Force Research Laboratory, advising and guiding the Commander, Vice Commander and 10 Directors at locations worldwide. In addition, she served as Human Resources Programs Branch Chief and Human Resources Site Liaison with the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Munitions Directorate and Human Effectiveness Directorate for more than 850 personnel. As the Deputy Director for the Arizona Laboratories for Security and Defense Research, she created and executed the laboratory’s revitalization plan with the Arizona Governor’s staff, including a state UAV cluster and the region’s first Cyber Warfare Range. She was a key developer of a relocation strategy for the Department of Defense agency and national university research. She is currently the Service Provider Deputy Program Manager for the NASA Shared Services Center at Stennis Space Center, Miss.
