WASHINGTON -- Secretary of the Air Force Dr. James G. Roche (right) visits with members of the Air Forces Escape and Evasion Society at the newly opened World War II Memorial here May 3. The society, formed in 1964 by former B-17 pilot Ralph Patton (center in hat), comprises both U.S. Airmen who successfully evaded capture after bailing out of their aircraft over Europe in World War II and a number of the European civilians who helped them.
