POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- An aircraft fuselage and cockpit burns at the aircraft fire training pit here as a C-130 Hercules takes off. The base fire department's training pit allows Pope firefighters to safely practice extinguishing aircraft fires. During training, temperatures exceed 2,000 degrees in the pit.
