  • TRICARE extends referral waiver to Sept. 30 for North Carolina and South Carolina patients affected by Hurricane Florence

    To continue assisting TRICARE patients in North Carolina and South Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence, the Defense Health Agency has extended until Sept. 30 its provider referral waivers. TRICARE patients in these states may continue to see providers in any location without a referral from their primary care provider until Sept. 30.
  • Air Force realigns Holloman AFB under AETC

    The 49th Wing at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, and all co-located units, will realign from Air Combat Command to Air Education and Training Command effective Oct. 1.

    That young pilot, Capt. Benjamin Foulois, was in one of eight Curtis JN-3 “Jenny” biplanes participating in the search. The planes were powered with 90-horsepower engines that had a rough time just staying airborne, but they led a reconnaissance mission to kick off Gen. John J. Pershing’s punitive expedition into Mexico.
  • Angel de los Andes exercise unites US Air Force, South American partners

    Ninety-five U.S. Air Force Airmen trained with 11 partner nation air forces, tallying more than 400 participants, in the Colombian-led multinational search and rescue exercise “Angel de los Andes” Sept. 3-14.
  • CMSAF Wright: The Airmen We Need must be resilient

    In order to win tomorrow’s war, defend the homeland and remain a safe and secure nuclear deterrent, Airmen must be well trained, well led, agile and resilient, according to the Air Force’s most senior enlisted leader. Building upon Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson’s discussion of the “Air Force We Need” and Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David L. Goldfein’s assessment of how to use the advantages of multi-domain operations, Wright said the “Airmen We Need” must be well trained, well led and agile in addition to resilient.

    Reserve Airmen from the 920th Rescue Wing were awarded with the Air Force Association Unit Award Sept. 18, during the opening and awards ceremony at the annual Air, Space and Cyber Conference in National Harbor.
  • T-6A Texan II Crash

    A 12th Flying Training Wing T-6A Texan II crashed near Rolling Oaks Mall at approximately 4 p.m. Sept. 18. The crew ejected and is safe with minor injuries reported at the site. Both were transported to the Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph Medical Clinic for evaluation and both pilots were released
  • AFCENT command and control operations weather the storm

    The force smashed into their northern and western flank, but still, the Airmen stayed focused on the U.S. Central Command mission, a fight thousands of miles away. The opposing force was no enemy, however. These Airmen of the 609th Air Operations Center, Detachment 1, Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, faced Hurricane Florence.

    Lt. Col. John Avery and Lt. Col. Jennifer Avery were the first husband-wife pilot team to fly the B-2 Spirit. Their two, 20-year-long careers culminated with the couple’s joint retirement ceremony on Sept. 7, 2018, at Whiteman AFB, Missouri.
