CENTAF releases daily airpower summary Published Feb. 16, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released today's airpower summary.Coalition aircraft flew 40 close-air-support missions Feb. 15 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. In a joint effort, coalition forces conducted a precision air strike using Air Force F-15 Eagles against a known terrorist weapon storage facility near Salman Pak. The facility was used to acquire and transport bomb-making munitions to be used in attacks against the Iraqi people and coalition forces. The F-15s successfully expended precision-guided munitions against the facility. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hawijah. The F-16s successfully expended precision-guided munitions against an enemy weapons cache. Also, Air Force F-16s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Taji, Balad and Tall Afar. In addition, 11 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors. In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 20 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy troops near Asadabad. The A-10s successfully strafed the target with cannon rounds. Four Air Force and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 160 airlift sorties, transported 3640 passengers and delivered 340 tons of cargo including 17,500 pounds of supplies air-dropped to coalition troops in Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and South Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On Feb. 14 Air Force and RAF tankers flew 29 sorties and off-loaded more than 1.8 million pounds of fuel.
