Brigadier General Randy Witt is director of command, control, communications and computers systems, U. S. European Command, Patch Barracks, Stuttgart-Vaihingen, Germany. He is responsible for command and control communications systems planning and operations in support of all U. S. military operations in Europe, Africa and certain Middle East countries. In this capacity he has directly supported combat operations in the Bosnian conflict and Partnership For Peace initiatives, including conceptualizing, then implementing. the COMBINED ENDEAVOR exercise series, which was cited by the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The general entered the Air Force in 1968 after graduating from The Citadel and has served in key line, staff and command positions in air traffic control and communications. He commanded a communications squadron and the largest combat communications group in the Air Force. During his command of the 1916th Communications Squadron, the unit was selected as the best squadron in the command and earned the AFCC Commander's Achievement Award. Under his command, the 3rd Combat Communications Group also won the AFCC Commander's Achievement Award, the worldwide tactical communications competition, COMBAT CHALLENGE, and was selected as the best communications group in the Air Force, winning the Harold McClelland Trophy. General Witt deployed to Southwest Asia for operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm as deputy chief of staff for C4 Systems, U.S. Central Command Air Forces. He was responsible for the successful establishment, operation, and maintenance of communications systems at more than 25 locations supporting the war.
General Witt was assigned to the Joint Staff as deputy division chief for Unified and Specified Command Support in the Directorate of C4 Systems. Prior to his current assignment, he was director of plans, policy and resources at Headquarters U.S. Air Force, where he directed formulation of Air Force policy regarding C4 systems and management of Air Force software.
