DR. BARRY L. FARMER Barry L. Farmer is Chief Scientist, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Dr. Farmer is a member of the scientific and professional cadre of senior executives. Dr. Farmer joined AFRL in 1998 as Senior Scientist for Polymeric Materials, Polymer Branch, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, where he led and performed research in polymeric materials, primarily focusing on structure-property relationships. Prior to that, he was Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Virginia. Dr. Farmer has conducted research in polymer physics for 30 years. He is known for his research in computational molecular modeling and X-ray diffraction studies of semi-crystalline and liquid crystalline polymers, addressing the inter-relationships between molecular-scale interactions and macroscopic behavior. Dr. Farmer has written more than 100 publications and co-edited a book and two journal issues on these topics. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He serves on the Executive Committee and as Secretary-Treasurer of the APS Division of Polymer Physics. Dr. Farmer is Alternate Councilor for the American Chemical Society Division of Polymer Chemistry. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Polymer and is also Chair of the Society of Plastics Engineers Research Award Subcommittee.
