BRIGADIER GENERAL DONALD R. KLANG Brigadier General Donald R. Klang is Executive Director, Quality Assurance, Contract Administration Services, Defense Supply Agency, Cameron Station, Alexandria, Va. General Klang was born in Chicago, Ill., on Jan. 20, 1924. He received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering, 1949, and master of science degrees in education and chemical engineering, 1961 and 1962, from Purdue University. He also earned a master of science degree in political science from Auburn University, 1971, and is a graduate of the Air War College, 1971. General Klang entered active military duty in the Army Air Corps aviation cadet program in March 1943 and received his pilot wings and commission as a second lieutenant in August 1944. During World War II, General Klang served in the European Theater of Operations as a B-24 pilot. He was released from active duty in October 1945 and entered Purdue University. General Klang returned to active duty in May 1951 and served at Lawson Air Force Base, Ga., as a troop carrier pilot with the 73rd Troop Carrier Squadron, and later became a flight commander with the 778th Troop Carrier Squadron. In October 1954 General Klang was assigned duties as a flight commander with the 817th Troop Carrier Squadron, Far East Air Forces, in Japan. In October 1955 he was transferred to the 483rd Troop Carrier Wing as combat operations officer. General Klang was appointed Assistant Professor of Air Science, Reserve Officer Training Corps, at Purdue University, Ind., in May 1957. He remained at Purdue University from June 1960 to June 1962 as a graduate student under the Air Force Institute of Technology program, and earned his master's degrees. Upon graduation, he was transferred to Hill Air Force Base, Utah, where he served with the Ogden Air Materiel Area as a chemical engineer, and in June 1964 was assigned to the 2705th Air Munitions Wing as Chief, Service Engineering Division. General Klang returned to flying duties and in August 1966 became a flight commander and instructor pilot with the 776th Troop Carrier Squadron at Ching Chuan Kang Air Base, Taiwan, in the Republic of China. He returned to the United States in September 1967 and was assigned to Aerospace Systems Division at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, as a staff program control officer and later as Chief of the Gunship II Project Division. In September 1968 General Klang joined the Armament Development and Test Center, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., as Director of Acquisition, and later as Deputy for Procurement and Production. In August 1970 he entered the Air War College, and after graduation, in August 1971, was assigned to the Sacramento Air Materiel Area (redesignated Air Logistics Center), McClellan Air Force Base, Calif., as the Director of Materiel Management. In January 1974 he became Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Materiel Management, Air Force Logistics Command, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. General Klang assumed duties as Executive Director, Quality Assurance, Contract Administration Services, Defense Supply Agency, Cameron Station, Alexandria, Va., in July 1975. His military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Ribbon with one oak leaf cluster. He is a command pilot. He was promoted to the grade of brigadier general effective July 1, 1974, with date of rank June 10, 1974. (Current as of July 1975)
