Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony March 24 for the newest Air Force solar array, a photovoltaic farm named Nellis II. The system, upon completion, will provide 19 megawatts of direct current capacity to the base, making it the largest photovoltaic system in the Department of Defense.

Kenneth Vanderipe, individual protective equipment warehouse technician stocks chemical protective overboots at the 325th Logistics Readiness Division here. Equipment like overboots are stored to be used in deployable chemical warfare bags with an assigned expiration date based on expected shelf-life. Extending the service life of this equipment reduces waste and saves money, so logistics experts in the Air Force Civil Engineer Center Readiness Directorate's Emergency Management Division here are finding ways to do just that. In fiscal 2013, they created more than $33 million in cost avoidance savings for the Air Force by being able to keep tens of thousands of useful protective boots, suits and gloves.
