BRIGADIER GENERAL EVERETT L. TRUE

Brigadier General Everett L. True is deputy chief of staff for plans, Headquarters Air Training Command at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas.

General True was born in Craig, Mo., in 1928. He graduated from Fairfax High School, Fairfax, Mo., in 1945. After attending Wentworth Military Academy at Lexington, Mo., for a year, General True received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., graduating with the class of 1950. He entered flying training at James Connally Air Force Base, Texas, in August 1950 and received his pilot wings at Williams Air Force Base, Ariz., in August 1951. He attended the Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, where he received a master's degree in business administration in 1959.

His first assignment after flying training was as a fighter pilot in the 41st Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, Johnson Air Base, Japan, until November 1954. During July and August 1952 he saw duty in Korea with the 8th Fighter-Bomber Wing. From December 1954 until April 1958, he was assigned to Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., initially as a student, followed by instructor duty in the 3627th Combat Crew Training Squadron and the Interceptor Weapons School.

Upon graduation from the Air Force Institute of Technology in September 1959, General True was assigned to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, as chief, Source Selection Secretariat, Aeronautical Systems Division, and later as research and development staff officer in the GAM-87 System Program Office. In October 1963, he was assigned to the Pentagon as system project officer in the F-RF4 Project Office, followed by duty as F-111B/RF-111 System Officer in the F-111 Office, Directorate of Production, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Systems and Logistics, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.

From October 1967 to June 1969, he served successively as pilot, flight commander, assistant director and director, tactical operations, 463d Tactical Airlift Wing, Clark Air Base, Philippines. During this period, General True participated in frequent combat resupply missions in Vietnam.

In June 1969 General True assumed the position of director of programs, Thirteenth Air Force, Clark Air Base, Philippines. In July 1971 he joined the Joint Staff in the Far East Division, J-5 Directorate. From June 1973 until August 1975, General True was assigned to the Office of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C., as the Air Force member of the chairman's staff group.

General True was assigned as vice commander, Sacramento Air Logistics Center in August 1975. He assumed his current position Jan. 3, 1978.

His military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with six oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.

He was promoted to the grade of brigadier general Aug. 1, 1975, with same date of rank.
