BRIGADIER GENERAL EDWARD W. SCOTT JR.

Brigadier General Edward W. Scott Jr., is commander of the European Exchange Service. In this position he is responsible for the command and management of all exchange activities for both Army and Air Force personnel located in Europe and the Middle East.

Born at Hollandale, Miss., Aug. 18, 1916, General Scott attended high school in Mississippi and received his bachelor of science degree from Mississippi State College in May 1939. As a graduate of the ROTC program he received a commission in the Army Reserve in 1939 and participated in the aviation cadet program. In March 1940, the general received a commission as second lieutenant in the U. S. Army Air Corps.

General Scott's early assignments were with the 9th Bomb Group in New York, Panama, Trinidad and Surinam, and later with the 6th Bomb Group in Guatemala. He was then assigned to the Southwest Pacific as a squadron commander and later as Commander of the 43d Bomb Group. He then assumed command of the 90th Bomb Group.

From November 1945 to October 1947 General Scott was assigned to Headquarters Fifteenth Air Force, Colorado Springs, Colo., as statistical control officer and then to Headquarters, Strategic Air Command, Andrews Field, Md.

Following graduation from the Armed Forces Staff College in February 1948, General Scott was assigned to the Office of the Comptroller, Headquarters U. S. Air Force, where he served until August 1951. From August 1951 to August 1953 he held positions at group and wing level, assuming command of the 95th Bomb Wing, Biggs Air Force Base, Texas, in September 1953. In 1956 he commanded SAC XRAY in Japan and became special assistant to the commander, 810th Air Division, in May 1957. In August 1947 the general assumed command of the 22d Bomb Wing at March Air Force Base, Calif.

General Scott was assigned to the University of Alabama in June 1960 as professor of air science of Air Force ROTC Detachment 10, In July 1962 he became vice commandant of the Air Command and Staff College. From July 1963 to June 1966 he was commandant of the Air Command and Staff College. He assumed his present position on July 1, 1966.

General Scott's awards and decorations include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross with two oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster and the Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster.
