BRIGADIER GENERAL GROVER E. JACKSON

Brigadier General Grover E. Jackson is director for intelligence, Headquarters U.S. Pacific Command, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. He is responsible for providing the USPACOM staff, and component and subunified commands with accurate and timely intelligence regarding activities of countries in and bordering on the USPACOM area of responsibility.

General Jackson was born in 1940, in Mobile, Ala. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of the South in 1962 and a master of arts degree in economics from Syracuse University in 1967. The general completed Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1964, Squadron Officer School in 1965, Air Command and Staff College in 1973, Armed Forces Staff College in 1974 and Air War College in 1982.

A distinguished graduate of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program, General Jackson completed the Communications Intelligence Officer Course at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas, in February 1963. In March 1963 he was assigned to the 6950th Security Wing, Royal Air Force Station Chicksands, England, as a flight commander and, later, as mission management officer.

After graduation in June 1967 from the Air Force Institute of Technology's program at Syracuse University, the general was assigned to Headquarters U.S. Air Force Security Service, Kelly Air Force Base, Texas, as an action officer with the deputy chief of staff for plans. In October 1968 he moved to South Vietnam, serving as an action officer with the Department of Defense's special representative in Saigon.

In November 1969 General Jackson was assigned to Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, as an intelligence plans officer, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Intelligence, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces. He became an intelligence requirements officer with the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff, Intelligence, U.S. Pacific Command headquarters, in May 1972.

The general completed Armed Forces Staff College in February 1974 and was assigned as a program element monitor, Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff, Intelligence, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. In July 1978 General Jackson became chief of the Collection Requirements Division, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Intelligence, Headquarters Strategic Air Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. He became executive officer to the deputy chief of staff for intelligence at SAC headquarters in August 1979.

Upon graduation from the Air War College in June 1982, the general transferred to Stuttgart, West Germany, where he served as commander of the U.S. European Command Defense Analysis Center. From April 1984 to May 1985 he was chief of the Intelligence Plans Division, Directorate of Intelligence, Headquarters U.S. European Command. He then became vice commander of the Electronic Security Command at Kelly Air Force Base. In July 1987 he became vice director, Joint Special Studies Group, National Security Agency, Fort George G. Meade, Md. He assumed his present position in July 1989.

His military awards and decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster.

He was promoted to brigadier general June 1, 1987, with same date of rank.
