BRIGADIER GENERAL GERALD E. "GARY" HAHN

Brigadier General Gerald E. "Gary" Hahn is deputy for policy and network operations, Defense Finance and Accounting Service-Denver Center, Colo.

General Hahn was born in 1938, in Tulsa, Okla., and graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1956. He earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Tulsa in 1960 and a master of science degree in guidance and counseling from Troy State University in 1972. The general completed Squadron Officer School in 1964, Air Command and Staff College as a distinguished graduate in 1973, Professional Military Comptroller School in 1975 and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1979.

He was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Tulsa University in 1960. In September 1961 General Hahn entered active duty at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, Mo., as a data processing officer and later served as budget officer. He was assigned as comptroller, Southeast Asia Communication Region, Clark Air Base, Philippines, in July 1966.

In July 1968 General Hahn joined the faculty of Squadron Officer School, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., first as section commander, and later as scheduling officer. After completing Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell, in June 1973, he was assigned to Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Ramstein Air Base, West Germany. There he served successively as budget officer, chief of the Cost Analysis and Programs Branch, and executive officer for the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Comptroller.

The general was assigned to Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., in June 1976 as assistant executive officer and later became executive officer to the comptroller of the Air Force. From July 1978 through June 1979 he attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Fort Lesley J. McNair, Washington, D.C. He then transferred to Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M., as comptroller, Field Command, Defense Nuclear Agency. In July 1981 he became budget director at Headquarters Strategic Air Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.

General Hahn returned to U.S. Air Forces in Europe headquarters in July 1983 as assistant deputy chief of staff, comptroller, and in August 1984 became deputy chief of staff, comptroller. In August 1987 he was assigned as assistant deputy comptroller of the Air Force, Air Force headquarters. He became deputy auditor general and commander, Air Force Audit Agency, Norton Air Force Base, Calif., in September 1989. He assumed his present position in May 1991.

The general's military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, and National Defense Service Medal.

He was promoted to brigadier general Aug. 1, 1989, with same date of rank.
