Air Force unit to improve airfield security in Slovenia

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany (AFNS) --  Airmen from the 435th Contingency Response Group here traveled to Cerklje Air Base, Slovenia, to conduct a security familiarization event Jan. 21 - 25.

The 435th CRG is a uniquely suited organization for the mission of building partnership. With 42 different career fields, the unit members can engage with partner nations in core mission areas across the Air Force spectrum.

Master. Sgt. Jay Peavey, the 435th CRG air adviser and security superintendent, led a four-person team to exchange ideas and identify possible improvements in the Cerklje airfield security process.

"This airfield security familiarization event was a valuable experience to further the partner relationship with the Slovene military," Peavey said. "Future exchange activities will benefit from this opportunity."

The security familiarization training enabled the Airmen to teach and learn new mission techniques from counterparts of other nations.

"It was a privilege to work with professional peers in pursuit of common airfield security goals," said Staff Sgt. Matthew Meadows, a 435th CRG air adviser and security forces instructor. "This was an excellent learning opportunity for all participants."

With these partnerships, the U.S. is able to become familiar with new mission techniques of the Slovenian counterparts and improve partner nation interoperability.

"Security considerations are a cooperative endeavor by nature," Peavey said. "I was very impressed with the talent and capacity of my Slovenian allies and look forward to future engagement opportunities."
