Air Force Marathon officials seek volunteer coordinators

Air Force Marathon officials are seeking applicants for volunteer coordinators who will be instrumental in executing this 15th annual running event.

"These positions serve as ambassadors of the 2011 Air Force Marathon," said Jeanette Monaghan, the staff volunteer coordinator. "They are truly the backbone of the race each year.

"Every year the marathon grows," she said, "and to maintain that success we need to find those people who will provide the best customer service to our runners."

In previous years, volunteers could use the online registration process to become a volunteer "lead."  However, this year staff members at the marathon office have redefined the roles of the volunteer "coordinators" and will require an application and interview.

According to Mrs. Monaghan, volunteer coordinators do not need to have base access; however, previous marathon or volunteer management experience is desirable. Many of these positions are at the Expo at the Nutter Center at nearby Wright State University on Sept. 15th and 16th, and others are on race day. Mrs. Monaghan expects all of these positions will be filled by the end of March.

Some of the positions available are:

· Baggage Claim Coordinator
· Finish Line/Start Line Coordinator
· Expo Set-Up Coordinator
· Information Area Coordinator
· Refreshment Tent Coordinator
· Results Coordinator

"The 2011 Air Force Marathon will be held Saturday, Sept. 17th, and start at the National Museum of the United States Air Force but the work to put to event on has already begun," Mrs. Monaghan said.
