Combat search, rescue highlighted in new commercial

A commercial highlighting combat search and rescue, or CSAR, Airmen began airing Oct. 5 in television markets and select movie theaters across the country.

"CSAR" shows the teamwork involved to locate, communicate with and recover downed aircrews and isolated personnel.

The commercial is the third in a series. The first two highlight the technology of unmanned aircraft systems and space operations.

"Combat search and rescue is a critical mission in the Air Force," said Col. Michael Tillema, Air Force Recruiting Service director of strategic communications. "As a former CSAR HH-60G Pave Hawk pilot, I'm very excited that we are showcasing one of the Air Force's unique missions. I'm sure it'll resonate with young people of today who are looking to do something incredible with their lives and want to be a part of a great championship team."

"CSAR" was produced by contract ad agency GSD&M Idea City of Austin, Texas, for AFRS. The 30-second spot will air on the Adult Swim, BET, Comedy Central, ESPN, ESPNews, FX, FOX Soccer, G4, MTV, NFL, Speed, Spike TV, TBS, USA and History channels.

The Air Force's new science-fiction campaign is geared toward demonstrating technology once thought to be science fiction but actually is being employed by Airmen today. Each commercial spot is portrayed in a cinematic, sci-fi environment and then revealed in the end to be missions that are not science fiction but rather what the men and women in the Air Force do every day.
