Air Force selects bowling team

The Air Force Bowling Team concluded its team selection process here Jan. 3 with eight members making the cut among 50 competitors.

Four women and four men gained spots on the team and are currently competing at the Armed Forces Bowling Championship at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii.

This year, the Armed Forces Championship will feature a combined total pin score instead of separate men's and women's team events.

The women's division consists of:

Melody McTaggart from Lackland Air Force Base with a 182.50 average;
Trish Rodgers from Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, with a 177.67 average;
Pamela Matthews from Lackland AFB with a 173.96 average; and
Carol Becker from Offutt AFB, Neb., with a 173.96 average. 

"I'm definitely very happy to be going with my mom to Hawaii," said Ms. McTaggart's, whose mother is Ms. Becker who also made the team. "She has been my coach my whole life."

Ms. McTaggart and Ms. Becker will compete as doubles partners at the Armed Forces Bowling Championship.

The men's division members are:
Randy Lightsey from Shaw AFB, S.C., with a 196.38 average;
Martin Bedford from Bolling AFB, D.C., with a 195 average;
Tyler Seldon from Wright-Patterson AFB, with a 194.63 average; and
Todd Pallas from Ellsworth AFB, S.D., with a 190.21 average.

"I'm confident that we have the best bowlers in the Air Force," said coach Chuck Hall said.
