CSAF's Scope highlights SERE training, AMU reorganization

SAN ANTONIO (AFPN) --  The Chief of Staff of the Air Force's Scope focuses on current topics the Air Force chief of staff feels are of special importance to today's Airmen.

Among Gen. T. Michael Moseley's top issues this month are revamping survival, evasion, resistance and escape training for Airmen and reorganizing aircraft maintenance units.

Because today's battlefields are non-linear, the general said every Airman is in jeopardy of being captured and needs to know how to survive in this situation.

"For me, all of this points to a greater need to make sure our Airmen know how to react in any situation they find themselves," General Moseley said. "To address this emerging requirement, I recently invited other Air Force leaders to a summit where we discussed the SERE training we provide our Airmen."

Organizing the way Airmen fight is also a priority for the chief of staff.

"Since our platforms have different missions and employment methods, we're examining options to ensure we have the right organizational solutions for our varied flying missions," he said. "Our goal with any future changes will be to take care of Airmen -- our greatest resource -- and allow them to have the same focus on the mission, whether in combat or training, whether at home station or deployed."

Other topics on the CSAF's Scope include the associate-to-baccalaureate cooperative program, ancillary training and space situational awareness. The general has written a brief explanation of each topic so Airmen can better understand the issues he is working and why they are important to the Air Force's senior leaders.
