ARLINGTON, Va. (AFNEWS) -- Top military leaders will examine air warfare at the start of the new century and what the future may hold for the Air Force at the 23rd Annual Air Warfare Symposium Feb. 8 and 9 in Orlando, Fla.

The theme for this year's Air Force Association symposium is "Striking the Balance: Today's War, Tomorrow's Threats, Future Technology," and guest speakers include Michael W. Wynne, the secretary of the Air Force, and Gen. T. Michael Moseley, the Air Force chief of staff.

Other speakers include Gen. Ronald E. Keys, commander of Air Combat Command; Gen. James E. Cartwright, commander of U.S. Strategic Command; Gen. Bruce Carlson, commander of Air Force Materiel Command; Gen. Paul V. Hester, commander of Pacific Air Forces; and Gen. Duncan J. McNabb, commander of Air Mobility Command.

To be addressed is air, space and cyberspace power as the domain of U.S. military capabilities. Total situational awareness of the battle space brings asymmetrical advantages with a host of opportunities as senior Air Force leaders address current threats while transforming to meet future needs. Whether it is intelligence provided by a spacecraft in geosynchronous orbit; streaming video courtesy of the MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle to the warfighter on the ground coordinating operations, an F-16 Fighting Falcon providing close-air support precision strike or detecting hostile ground activity, or fuel from a tanker crew, air warfare is being challenged and is evolving in ways never seen before.
