Air Force Week events continue in St. Louis

Air Force Week activities continued here Aug. 10 with a B-2 Spirit bomber, KC-135 Stratotanker and C-130 Hercules gracing the downtown skies.

Local media and civic leaders were invited to fly aboard the C-130 or KC-135 for a front row seat to watch the B-2 maneuver over the city and see St. Louis from on high.

Other events Aug. 10 included visits to local hospitals by members of the Thunderbirds demonstration team and the appearance of the Air Force "Jet Car" at the St. Louis Science Center. The science center also served as host to the high-tech, interactive "Cross Into the Blue" exhibit that features an F-16 Fighting Falcon, an extreme equilibrium ride and several interactive games.

The purpose of Air Force week is to raise public awareness of the service's operations, capabilities and support of the war on terrorism; showcase Airmen; and thank the public for its support of Air Force men and women.

The week will be capped off Aug. 12 and 13 with an open house and air show at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. In addition to the Thunderbirds, the air show will include fighter and transport aircraft flyovers, parachute jumps, numerous static displays and other demonstrations. The event is free and open to the public.
