The Air Force was a “significant player” in the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure process, according to the latest “The Secretary’s Vector.”

Michael L. Dominguez, acting secretary of the Air Force, released the vector May 11.

“We determined the military value of active duty, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve installations based on principles including homeland defense, global power projection, a balanced total force, and efficient and effective training,” he wrote. “These recommendations could result in closure and/or realignment of many Air Force installations, undoubtedly affecting many members of our entire team.”

The secretary of defense is scheduled to make the BRAC announcement May 13.
