Featured in this force management update are details regarding civilian force management program expansions and ongoing officer early retirement and enlisted retention boards.
Civilian force management - voluntary early retirement authority (VERA) /voluntary separation incentive pay (VSIP)
The Air Force Personnel Center recently concluded the survey period for VERA/VSIP round 3, in which 29 installations participated, with 248 employees applying for VERA/VSIP. Of those applications, 91 applications were viable based on the criteria that VSIP can only be approved if the loss will prevent an involuntary separation within their competitive area.
The 91 employees were approved for voluntary separation effective Aug. 31. Air Force and AFPC leaders, in coordination with installation civilian personnel sections, determined the need for an additional VERA/VSIP round 4 survey window which is scheduled for July 21-Aug. 1. The round 4 surveys will focus on the number of employees potentially impacted by the Secretary of Defense-directed 20 percent management headquarters staff reductions.
Officer early retirement and enlisted retention boards
The enhanced selective early retirement board, or ESERB, concluded June 20. AFPC will provide commanders with ESERB results for their Airmen by the end of July. Additionally, enlisted retention boards are underway and results for the senior NCO board are expected to be provided to senior raters by the end of July and results for the senior airman through technical sergeant ERB will be available by the middle of August.
Continued service in the Guard and Reserve
Palace Chase and Palace Front offer Airmen a unique opportunity to continue serving while filling critical total force needs in an Air Reserve component. Since July 2013, more than 1,500 Airmen have made the commitment to continue their service in the Air Force Reserve or Air National Guard.
