Personnel assigned to the Air Force Medical Service and Air Reserve Component who have contributed an innovative achievement to the AFMS community are encouraged to compete for the AFMS Outstanding Achievement in Innovation Award and submit by Dec. 1.

The award program annually recognizes an individual or small group of military and civilians, not organizations, who have made substantial improvements in the quality and productivity of operations through innovative ideas, special acts, and other management initiatives, which resulted in a substantial improvement and/or savings to the Air Force.

Individual award winners are entitled to wear the Air Force Recognition Ribbon (military) or lapel pin (civilian) according to AFI 36-2805, Special Trophies and Awards. AFMS Innovations will provide documentation to the individual award winners, authorizing the wear of the recognition ribbon and lapel pin, through appropriate channels.

Qualifications and criteria include alignment to one of the AFMS Strategy Areas (better care, better health, better value and readiness); potential to advance innovation in one or more strategic areas or gaps; degree of innovation (process improvement, leading practice, transformative or disruptive); and success of implementation.

To submit a nomination, email submissions by the Dec. 1 deadline to the AFMS Innovations Chief. Nominations must be submitted in accordance with the format of Air Force Form 1206, should be no more than three pages, may contain as many bullets as will fit within the three pages allowed, and must be unclassified.

Full eligibility criteria and application guidelines for the program can be found on the AFMS Awards Knowledge Exchange website.
