Women in the Air National Guard
MCGHEE TYSON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Tenn. – U.S. Air National Guard Noncommissioned Officer Academy student, Staff Sgt. Mary Ellen Loy, gets inspected by Col. Edmund Morrisey, then head of the I.G. Brown Training and Education Center here, 1968-1983. Loy graduated to later earn recognition as one of the Air Guard's and the U.S. Air Force's first woman Outstanding Airmen of the Year. In its early beginnings, Women in the Air Force, or active duty WAF’s, first attended the Center. Later, women attended on the same status as men after the WAF’s were abolished in 1976, the same year the Air Force Academy begin accepting females. (U.S. Air National Guard file-photo/Released)
