Landing zone safety officers trained at austere location
Senior Airman Jesse Medrano and Staff Sgt. Brandon Craig conduct a foreign object debris walk and inspection of a dirt landing zone in the Zabul Province of Afghanistan near FOB Lagman as part of the hands on portion of a Landing Zone Safety Officer class. The class consisted of U.S. Air Force, Army, and Romanian army members who were there to be certified to safely run the dirt landing and drop zone. The class was taught by U.S. Air Force instructors from Combined Joint Task Force 101, Headquarters Air Mobility Liaison Office. Airman Medrano is a joint terminal air controller with the 807th Expeditionary Air Support Operations Squadron at Forward Operating Base Lagman, Afghanistan. He is deployed from the 10th Air Support Operations Squadron at Ft. Riley, Kan. Sergeant Craig is deployed from the 2nd Air Support Operations Squadron at Vilseck, Germany.
