Airman missing 28 years comes home
Patriot Honor Guard Staff Sergeants Philip Pelletier (left and nearest to the airplane ramp) and Lucien Blake render salutes as the remains of Staff Sgt. Donald Michaud are lowered from a Delta Airlines jet July 18 at Logan International Airport in Boston. Sergeant Michaud along with two other individuals went scuba diving on Sept. 9, 1978, in Vouliagmeni Lake near Vouliagmenis Point, Greece, and failed to return. An unsuccessful search effort was launched and two weeks later, a presumptive finding of death was declared. In the fall of 2006, a local Greek diving association located wetsuits, diving equipment and human remains believed to be those of the missing individuals. The Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory, confirmed the identification of the three missing Americans. Joining the sergeants are members of the Logan Airport Fire Department and a member of the Massachusetts State Police. (U.S. Air Force photo/David Turner)
