Original cadre of C-130 Weapons Instructor Course discuss growth of training
Cols. Glen Downing, Kirk Lear, Kevin Jackson, Greg Otey and John Rutkowski stand in front of the 29th Weapons Squadron flagship aircraft on the Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark., flightline Sept. 11. The colonels are five of the original cadre members who stood up the Air Force's C-130 Weapons Instructor Course in 1995. These "Living Legends" were instrumental in bringing the weapons instructor course concept to the mobility air force in 1995, changing the way C-130s, and combat airlift, fits into today's warfighting missions. Colonel Downing is the Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs Strategy and Assessments Division chief. Colonel Lear is the 314th Airlift Wing vice commander. Colonel Jackson is the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center director of operations. Colonel Otey is the 19th Airlift Wing commander. Colonel Rutkowski is the Air Mobility Command Combat Operations Division chief. (U.S. Air Force Photo/Senior Airman Vanessa Dale)
