In His Honor: Street named for Airmen killed in action
The U.S. flag waves proudly in the background behind the new Barnes Road and Jacobson Avenue intersection sign June 10 in Southwest Asia. The intersection is named in honor of Airman 1st Class Eric Barnes, who died June 10, 2007, as a result of an improvised explosive device attack on an Air Force convoy about 100 miles south of Baghdad, Iraq, and Airman 1st Class Elizabeth Jacobson, who died Sept. 28, 2005 while on a convoy near Camp Bucca, Iraq, when her vehicle was hit by an IED. She was the first female Airman killed in the line of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Michael O'Connor)
