  • Around the Air Force: Flight Equipment / F-35A Integration / GI Bill Transferability

    On today's look around the Air Force, Air Force flight equipment is being redesigned for female aviators, and for the first time, U.S. Air Force F-35As integrated operationally with Italian Air Force F-35As, making use of one of its main technological design features of interoperability. Also, service members who want to transfer Post 9/11 G.I. Bill benefits to their spouse or dependent children will see some changes starting July 12th.
  • Changes to Post-9/11 GI Bill transfers effective July 2019

    The transferability option under the Post-9/11 GI Bill allows service members to transfer all or some unused benefits to their spouse or dependent children. The request to transfer unused GI Bill benefits to eligible dependents must be completed while serving as an active member of the Armed Forces. The Department of Defense determines whether or not you can transfer benefits to your family. Once the DoD approves benefits for transfer, the new beneficiaries apply for them at Veterans Affairs.

    All four military services of the U.S. Department of Defense are preparing a joint Tenant Bill of Rights in an effort to ensure service members and their families have safe, quality homes and communities, and clear rights while living in them. It is intended to increase the accountability of privatized housing companies by putting more oversight authority in the hands of local military leaders.

    From Jan. 11 to 13, it was the job of the C-5M Super Galaxy aircrew and aerial port specialists at Travis Air Force, California to join in efforts with the Army to transport four UH-60 Black Hawks from California to the helicopters’ home base at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.

    Airmen from the 92nd Operations Group from Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington, 6th OG from MacDill AFB, Florida and 931st Operations Support Squadron from McConnell AFB, Kansas, flew to Nellis AFB in support of the KC-135 Stratotankers’ role in exercise Red Flag 18-2.

    Community and business leaders joined representatives of the military at the Air Force Academy last night to mark the 100-day countdown until athletes arrive in Colorado for the 2018 Department of Defense Warrior Games. Now in their ninth year, the Warrior Games are returning to Colorado Springs, the city that hosted the inaugural Games in 2010. The Warrior Games will be free and open to the public throughout the competitions from June 2 – 9, 2018.

    For many American service members, the holidays are just another work day. In a news conference last week, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey reminded Americans that their military is deployed worldwide, performing missions that keep their fellow citizens safe. In his last news conference of 2013, Dempsey pointed out that, in addition to service members in combat zones, about 250,000 men and women in uniform are deployed overseas during this holiday period.
