  • AFSFC launches software to monitor health of military working dogs

    The software will analyze four major focus areas — administrative offices, kennel facilities, support areas and veterinary support. It will also analyze 10 sub-focus areas and 32 graded areas. These parameters will be used to categorize and advocate for facility enhancements and renovations to properly support more than $116 million in MWD assets.

    The 6th Civil Engineer Squadron explosive ordnance disposal flight held an integrated training with 6th Security Forces Squadron military working dog teams, aeromedical technicians with the 927th Aeromedical Staging Squadron and veterinary technicians with the U.S. Army Public Health Activity, Fort Gordon, Georgia – MacDill Air Force Base branch, from Dec. 9 to 13, at MacDill Air Force Base and Avon Park Air Force Range, Florida.

    Military working dogs are among the unsung heroes of the military and play an important role from therapy dogs supporting service members and veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder to military working dogs supporting operations on and off the battlefield. In the Air Force, their natural skills directly augment members serving in security forces squadrons around the world.
  • Working dogs, handlers dynamic duo for base defense

    Deploying in pairs, military working dogs and their handlers share a bond exclusive to their career field; each directly dependent upon each other to accomplish the mission. This bond is strengthened in a deployed environment keeping the 380th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron military working dog teams focused on improving their capability. A capability that provides an extra level of protection for the members of the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing and every person visiting the installation.
